If you have been reading my blog for the past few years, you will know that Chinese New Year is my favorite time of the year! Growing up in a huge family and being totally immersed with this festive season, I have always looked forward to meeting up with my huge maternal and paternal extended families. My mum would decorate the house with pussy willows, decorations she bought from Chinatown, and my dad would bring us to the market to buy all the Chinese New Year food and soak into the atmosphere. Chinese New Year was a huge part of our childhood! But sadly, after my grandparents' passing about 6-7 years back, things got a little dull and sad during Chinese New Year. My grandparents were the reason why the families gathered, and it was never really the same as before. I remembered tearing up on one of the new year because I missed them and the unity and warmth of the gatherings we used to have. It felt like everyone got a bit lost, not knowing how we should celebrate or where we should gather during this joyous festival.

It was also during this time where I got married and started following my husband's family for his visitation, which I am thankful that my husband's extended families are also huge and it does somehow made me feel slightly better that I still get to celebrate this occasion extensively. In the recent 2-3 years, some of my own relatives have also started gathering once more which you will see photos of that in the coming entries!

I am off to bed now, work starts for me tomorrow after a week long of clearing my leave. Reality sets in, and I am definitely missing the kids already after spending so much time with them! Can't wait for the weekend!
